Dear Senator McCain

Dear Senator McCain:

I am a fan of yours and aspire to someday follow in your footsteps to the Senate. I was saddened to hear the recent news of your diagnosis. However I believe that not only is there is a clear path to victory over your illness, there is a tremendous opportunity to show the world how to recover from disease, particularly aggressive forms of brain tumors/cancer, naturally. It will require a steadfast commitment to a new lifestyle of proper nutrition and daily exercise and an unwavering faith in your body’s ability to heal itself.

Just as an introduction, I am a Personal Trainer and a nutritionist. I am also well-versed in the role of the gut microbiome as it relates to cancer and metabolic diseases. Also, I lost my sister to a misdiagnosis 21 years ago and since then I’ve been on a mission to teach people how to heal with diet and lifestyle.

That said, I’d like to point you in the direction of a plant-based ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting to treat brain tumors. It is a diet and lifestyle that is meant to starve tumor cells of its energy source, glucose. The ketogenic diet is high in good fats (coconut, avocado, MCT oil, etc), no or very low in non-fiber carbohydrates and low to moderate protein. Proteins should come mostly from plant sources and fish. Here are some informative links to articles on the ketogenic diet to treat brain tumors.

I would also like to mention to you that the latest research indicates that chemotherapy treatment is toxic to your body and will likely diminish your gut microbes’ ability to recover and keep you tumor-free in the long run. As you probably know, chemotherapy radiation treatment is like dropping a nuclear warhead on a mass of cells and microbes, good and bad. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2017/07/05/chemotherapy-may-spread-cancer-trigger-aggressive-tumours-warn

What Western Medicine is just starting to figure out is that the trillions of gut bacteria that we play host to is the key factor in cancers and metabolic disease. Our microbiota exists to help us digest food, assimilate nutrients, fight off infection and inflammation, and much more. This is why we need to do everything humanly possible to optimize our gut microbial composition and diversity. To restore our intestinal health and stave off disease, our gut microbiota requires a diet rich in pre- and pro-biotics, replete with a wide array of fibrous vegetables and periods of intermittent fasting/calorie restriction.

Here is more on the topic of fasting to starve cancer cells:

One other lead that I would like to mention is called a fecal matter transplant (FMT), aka “the ultimate probiotic”. You may need this to repopulate your gut with a diverse community of gut microbes that you may have lost through age, diet and other lifestyle/environmental factors. It is safe and has helped many people with various types of illnesses.

Once your gut is restored, a strict regimen of mostly plant-based ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting will help you maintain optimal health. This is the same lifestyle that has helped humans evolve and survive for millions of years on Earth. The fact that our modern diet has led us astray from this way of eating and living is the root cause of nearly all of cancer and metabolic diseases. I highly suggest watching this interview with Dr. David Perlmutter, writer of the bestseller, Grain Brain.
